La Croix Valmer is a little seaside resort typical of the 50's.
The coastal path will take you to little coves and beaches with crystal-clear water (rewarded with the European PAVILLON BLEU (blue flag)). Its many historic ruins (the Taillat Dolmen, the Roman ruins at the beach of Pardigon, the Napoleonic batteries at the Cape Lardier) and vineyards tell the origins of La Croix Valmer.
La ceinture côtière offre de petites criques qui abritent des mini-plages de rêve aux eaux marines et sous-marines de première qualité (récompensées depuis de nombreuses années par LE PAVILLON BLEU européen.). De nombreux vestiges (le dolmen de Taillat, les ruines romaines qui jonchent la plaine de Pardigon, les batteries napoléoniennes du Lardier) et domaines viticoles rappellent les origines de la commune. The origin of La Croix Valmer's name is thought to be owed to the Roman Emperor Constantine. While travelling to Rome in 312, Constantine is said to have seen a cross in the sky accompanied by the words "In Hoc Vinces" ("By this sign, you shall vanquish"). He immediately converted to Christianity and adopted the "labarum"- a standard bearing the sign of the cross.
The stone cross at the crossroads of the RD 559 and the RD 93 roads leading to Gigaro beach, was erected in 1893 in memory of the miracle. The village itself was built further to the creation of "Domaine de la Croix" vineyard in 1882. Successively called "La Croix", "La Croix de Cavalaire" and "La Croix des Mimosas", the village became "La Croix Valmer" in 1934, on the initiative of the first mayor and administration, which feared the name would be confused with that of other villages. . Beware of the rocks on the surface to the left. Great spot for waves when the west wind (Ponent) or the north west wind (Mistral) is blowing : waves up to 2,5 meters high. . The tourist office organises free entertainment all summer with Traditional, Jazz, Country, Salsa, and Holy music or variety shows. Le festival des Anches d‘Azur : end of June and beginning of July. Every year since 1996, brass bands from the world wide come and play in the gardens of the Villa Turquoise.
